360 Gemstone Image Notes

Iconasys has pioneered itself as a leader in 360 Gemstone Photography Systems by providing professional systems designed for users of any skill level at a fraction (1/5th!) of the price of our competitors. In addition  our solutions are completely automated and enable users to capture, editing and output high resolution 360 Gemstone Photography in minutes.

This Amethyst stone replica was shot in our Jewelry Photography Light Box (front, bottom and back LED panels set to full power and top LED sparkle light set to off), with our Silver Series Jewelry Photography Turntable sitting on the floor of the light box. The turntable was used with a 1.5″ diameter white platform and we placed a black piece of paper on either side of the turntable to create contrast in the gemstone.

The camera was about 13″ back from the subject and we set an aperture value of 10 – this provided ample depth of field while maintaining high image quality. Shutter Speed was set at 1/30, ISO at 100 and we set a custom white balance (this was set for the Jewelry Photography Light Box). The camera was mounted on a sturdy tripod and angled down onto the stone at ~40-degree angle. We also suggest a sturdy table to ensure no vibrations during the image capture process.

360 Diamond Photography System with Camera

For this 360 Gemstone Photography example, we shot total of  140 frames (1 capture every 2.57 degrees) and a fixed focal point was set through the software so we could maintain consistent focal depth as the diamond rotated. The images capture process was completely automated in a turn, stop, snap workflow and took ~4.5 minutes. After 360 image capture was complete, we entered into the Editing mode and applied the following edits in a batch process (set edits for 1 image then Apply to All):

Levels: Black Point Slider = 8, White Point Slider = 220, Midtone Slider = 1.08
Sharpness: Increased to 4.6
Saturation: Desaturated this slightly using a value of -12

We then output individual frames in JPG format (batch renaming) and also created an interactive 360 product view in HTML5 format. For the 360 View output, we customized button location, color, spin rate, mouse control sensitivity and added a watermark.
